The History Of Black Friday

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States and marks the start to the holiday shopping season. Black Friday is often linked with the Thanksgiving parades because they often included an appearance by Santa Claus.

The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day. More recently, it has been used to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit).

Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employees either have the day off or take the day off. This gives them an extended Thansgiving holiday weekend and increases the number of potential shoppers on Black Friday.

In recent years, many retailers open extremely early, at 5AM or even earlier. Some of the larger retailers have even opened as early as midnight on the start of Black Friday.

Black Friday sales have expanded from malls and shopping centers to the on-line shopping experience. The on-line shopping option allows you to take advantage of great bargains without having to wait for Black Friday - check out the Flip UltraHD Camcorder(Black)

The date of Black Friday 2009 is November 27, 2009.
